After our briefing on Monday we all walked out to Bedminister to take photos. Our brief was called "From Curiosity to Obsession", and we had to take 10-20 photos of an object which we make our mini obsession. We could use a range of different approaches such as moving it around, interacting with it, take it out of context, detailed shots, adding things to the frame etc. We were then asked to print the images and put them up in F block gallery for a mini exhibition to see everyone's work.
When first approaching the brief I decided to start off taking photos of a few different obsessions such as numbers, broken items, red things. My final decision was to take pictures of the word please in different places - for example on signs, shop windows, boxes etc. The images I took can be seen below.

After taking the images we had to go to the Tobacco Factory to show the tutors, and I discussed my images with Liz. We both agreed that the compositions could be more focused on the word please, for instance more zoomed in images. She suggested I re-shoot, however finding the word 'please' in places was surprisingly difficult, and I liked the images I took so I decided to crop them instead. The cropped versions can be seen below, and these are what I printed out and put up in F block gallery.

Overall I feel the flash shoot activity was good because it made me look for a topic in an obsessive and curious way, which is the sort of mindset I need to be thinking in for the actual brief. I do think I could've made better use of the time in the activity and shot something more interesting, however it's an exercise I've not done before and it was quite hard to come up with an idea on the spot. I'm looking forward to the next task so I can use my time more wisely and produce some work I'm happier with, but it was still a fun mini project.
