Statement of Intent:
My current intentions after the degree is to get an internship or job with a company or photographer I'm interested in. Initial photographers I've thought of whose work I like and would love to work for are: Elise Mesner, Carl Kleiner, Klaus Pichler, Spencer Murphy. There are lots more but when I need to remember them most, they all seem to escape my mind, so this list will be developed/changed/updated as I research and remember more photographers. The fields of work I'm interested in is assisting commercial work for clients (from doing things such as shooting products in the studio to going out on a location shoot), or working in the realms of photography at somewhere like Dazed or iD magazine. However I'm not really sure what roles of photography are available at these places, and I'd like some insight or help to research these further. I just know I love the aesthetic and style of these magazines and would love to be involved in creating the work. The factors that led me to this decision is the fact that working in the studio or shooting documentary style photography are some of my strengths - which can be seen from my year 1 work (for instance my 'Greenhouses' zines and studio still life shots of food). I also really enjoy these types of photography, and want to push myself further within them. After previously doing some work experience in Mike Harrington's photography studio in Norwich and going out on a location shoot with him for Virgin Money, it has made me realise you need strong organisational skills to be an assistant as well as good time-keeping, be willing to get involved and help out in any way you can, as well as having a technical knowledge of equipment and setting things up. I definitely feel as though I possess all these skills and they're only going to develop further while being on the course, so I'm up to the challenge of assisting, and the same can be said for working with iD or Dazed.
