After deciding the layout of the zine, and on the title and front cover design, the next step was to make any final edits to my chosen images as well as removing all dust marks, and finally soft-proofing. This blogpost is a documentation of this process of soft-proofing, which I'm going to show through screenshots (see below). This is a really important stage to making a zine, because it allows you to see how your images would look when printed on paper, then allowing you to edit them back to how they look on screen.

Firstly you need to change your proof set-up to a custom setting.

You then choose the proof condition 'Coated FOGRA39' and check the box 'Simulate Paper Colour' - this allows you to see how they would look printed out.

You then open up your original image next to your soft-proofed image and edit the colours back to how they should look.

This can be done with a variety of different adjustment tools on Photoshop, and I decided to use 'Vibrance' and 'Brightness/Contrast' to edit the image back to normal.

Here's the finished edit with the images next to each other, and as you can see the colours now match.
